Dear Winter Springs Residents,
In the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude that, above all, no lives were lost, and most of our homes sustained only minor damage. While we did see fallen trees, flooded streets, and road closures, it is a relief to say that our community stood resilient in the face of this storm.
A special thank you to our dedicated city staff and the Police Department for their incredible efforts during these challenging days. Their hard work has not gone unnoticed, and we are truly grateful for their tireless commitment to keeping Winter Springs safe.
While many of us experienced minor damage to our properties, I’ve heard reports of a few homes struck by fallen trees, a sobering reminder of the power of nature. Thankfully, we can all be grateful that no serious injuries were reported. With 10-12 inches of rain falling in our area, we are fortunate that the worst did not come to pass, particularly when we recall the devastating damage caused by the 18+ inches of rain brought by Hurricane Ian just two years ago.
I also want to highlight that since Hurricane Ian, the city has approved more than $8 million in stormwater infrastructure improvements. These efforts are a testament to our ongoing commitment to building a more resilient Winter Springs, and we are dedicated to further projects that will continue to strengthen our city’s ability to handle storms such as these.
We understand that approximately 10,000 households experienced power outages in Winter Springs, and many also dealt with internet disruptions—a tough situation in today’s world where we rely so heavily on connectivity. I know this has been frustrating, but I appreciate your patience. Please know that the city is working closely with Duke Energy to strengthen our infrastructure, ensuring greater reliability, and reducing vulnerabilities in our power system moving forward.
As we continue the process of recovery, let’s support one another as we always have. Together, we will recover and make our community even stronger.
Warmest regards,
Kevin McCann
Mayor of Winter Springs
